Role of Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty in the Management of Aortic Stenosis

چکیده
Balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) provides an excellent alternative to surgical intervention and has become the preferred for initial palliation stenosis in neonates, infants, children, adolescents, young adults. The elderly patients with calcific do not benefit from BAV. With exception of most can be discharged home within 24-hours procedure. Although there is definitive evidence pressure gradient relief immediately after as well at follow-up postponement following BAV, progression insufficiency late follow up remain a major concern. In neonatal population, severe may develop requiring intervention. Despite these limitations, balloon currently considered therapeutic procedure choice management congenital pediatric adult population. Careful detect recurrence development significant recommended.

The role of percutaneous aortic balloon valvuloplasty in patients with cardiogenic shock and critical aortic stenosis.
OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to evaluate the role of percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty in patients with cardiogenic shock due to severe aortic stenosis and associated major comorbid conditions and to establish predictors of survival. BACKGROUND The prognosis for patients in cardiogenic shock with severe aortic stenosis is poor. Aortic valve replacement can be lifesaving, but the pres...
متن کاملBalloon Aortic Valvuloplasty
Following the description by Lababidi in 1983 of balloon aortic valvuloplasty, it has been adopted by several groups of workers for relief of aortic valve stenosis. The indications for the procedure are peak-to-peak systolic pressure gradients in excess of 50 mmHg with symptoms or ECG changes or a gradient greater than 70 mmHg irrespective of the symptoms or ECG changes. One or more balloon dil...
متن کاملBalloon aortic valvuloplasty as a bridge to aortic valve surgery for severe aortic stenosis.
A best evidence topic in cardiac surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was, in patients with severe aortic stenosis, can balloon valvuloplasty be used as a bridge to aortic valve replacement? Altogether 463 papers were found using the reported search, of which 11 papers represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The authors, journal, ...
متن کاملAortic valve reinterventions after balloon aortic valvuloplasty for congenital aortic stenosis intermediate and late follow-up.
OBJECTIVES the aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term results of transcatheter balloon aortic valvuloplasty, the preferred treatment for congenital aortic stenosis (AS). BACKGROUND aortic valve function and reintervention late after this procedure are not well characterized. METHODS from 1985 to 2008, 563 patients underwent balloon dilation for congenital AS. After excluding those ...
متن کاملThe role of balloon aortic valvuloplasty in the era of transcatheter aortic valve implantation
Balloon aortic valvuloplasty is recommended in patients not suitable for transcatheter aortic valve implantation/aortic valve replacement (TAVI/AVR) or when such interventions are temporarily contraindicated. The number of performed balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) procedures has been increasing in recent years. Valvuloplasty enables the selection of individuals with severe left ventricular d...
